Why do we like to play some games and disregard the others? If you've
been asked, why do you like particular game, you cannot give a
proper answer to this question. Of course, you can say "It
has quality graphics, cool special effects etc." but will
that be true? Graphics, sounds, special effects and other features
affect our
opinion but we like it... simply because we do :).
The very same idea came to my mind when I ran Monsters House the
first time. This is not too much of an original idea - the game is
very similar to the lines game, the main character of the game reminds
of Monsters Inc, nothing at all remarkable but, in general, the game
left a pretty good impression.
Since the first seconds of game we encounter strange music. It revokes
mysterious and unexpected feelings, as if you were in an old castle
with ghosts and monsters. But no fear, it's just unusual creatures,
they looks pretty and kind and there is no reason to be afraid of.
When you begin to play and see the main character of Monster's House,
your impression of the game climate proves to be true. He looks like
a small monster, different from those which are killing and scaring.
Seems like nobody wants to be friends with him; he is kind and nice
but lonely. The little monster is in a terrible castle. It seems
that he is scared himself more than anyone. Kids will like him and
we do too: there is a kid in each one of us and just because of that
we are still playing games.
Monster's House playing area is a field, separated into squares.
Our monster can appear in each square. You can move the monster to
another square if he can walk there and nothing’s preventing
him. It's your turn - make a turn and the new monsters are coming.
You make another turn - more and more monsters appear. The only chance
of winning is to group them in figures of the same color. If you
do it, the monsters go away and you earn points. If you earn enough
points to pass level, you turn to the next, more difficult level.
Altogether, there are four different figures to assemble in game:
you see a figure you need to assemble at the beginning of each level.
Also, you can group the monsters into special bonus shapes and earn
more points, use a bomb monster and joker, which can be substituted
for a monster of any color.
As a result, good gameplay, perfect music and sounds left a good
impression and I'd like to recommend this game. In spite of a trivial
idea, the game author did his best to introduce something new and
I can say with certainty that he made it: special features, bonuses
and multi-figure turns are not the only way to earn points; in fact
it's the only way to pass the higher levels. Besides that, as a simple
puzzle, Monsters House serves as a perfect time-killer, exactly what
you need on your coffee-break. |
